11 Great Tips From A Disney Rookie

©Lawrence Family
Recently, I helped a family plan an impromptu, 1-Day/1-Night Walt Disney World vacation. They chose to spend their park day at the Magic Kingdom and their night at Disney's Art of Animation Resort. This being their first time at Disney, they learned some fantastic tips that they will be able to take with them on their next Disney Vacation - and they were kind enough to allow me to share those tips with you!
Our trip was fantastic. We learned  a lot and will do a lot of things different next year but, overall we love Disney and will be planning another trip soon.
• Waking the kids up at 5am to go and then expecting them to hang in there all day was a total rookie move. They were too excited to sleep and then our son promptly fell asleep on the first ride.

• We took a mid day break and went back to the hotel for dinner and then back to the park in the evening. The lines were much shorter and it was not as hot.

• We ended up renting a stroller (we will bring one next year).

• Both kids passed out in the stroller during the [Main Street Electrical Parade] which gave my husband a chance to go on some rides that the kids were too small for while I stayed with them in the stroller.

• We again wished we had our stroller when it was time to leave. We had our backpacks, cooler, and two sleeping kids and had to leave the [rented] stroller at the gate. Definitely got our cardio workout carrying two sleeping kids and all our stuff to the bus and then to the hotel room.

• The [Art of Animation] hotel was great. The pool was more than kid friendly. We stayed at the pool until 4pm the next day.

• Loved the Magic Bands! The kids felt so grown up having them and being able to open the hotel room, and since my husband and I are notorious for losing guest room keys it was one less thing to worry about.

• I will probably do a meal plan next time. The food options were not as awful as I had expected them to be (editor's note: mom is an Organic Certification Specialist and Farm Inspector and is very careful about what type of food she allows her family to eat) and we quickly realized how inconvenient taking a cooler was. Although next year we will have our stroller so maybe the cooler will be easier with a vehicle to carry it in around the park.

• [Next time, we will] perhaps stay at one of the resorts that is closer [to Magic Kingdom]. My husband would really like to stay at the one with the [monorail] right outside Magic Kingdom [Disney's Contemporary Resort].

• My son is a Star Wars fanatic! His knowledge at 4 would put most adult fans to shame. I had no idea all the Star Wars stuff at Hollywood Studios. I saw they have a Star Was weekend in May, but I think that would be way too soon for us to go again. Our next trip will definitely included a trip to Hollywood Studios and Jedi Training Camp.

• Next year we will have our first day be a hotel only day, enjoy one of the outdoor movies, play in the pool and get a good night sleep so we can start at the park refreshed and ready for a full day!
Overall it was a very magical trip. We really had a great time and just wished we were able to stay longer. We are looking forward to another one soon for 3-4 days.
